Our Mission:

The mission of the Presbyterian Church of Wellsville is to make gospel-transformed disciples who hope in Christ alone and proclaim Him through word and deed to the communities where we live and worship.

OUr Beliefs:

We believe that God exists, and that He is the Creator and King who sovereignly reigns over all things for His glory. Although God is holy and we are not, He desires to be in relationship with us. Therefore, in His love and grace God sent his Son Jesus Christ to live the sinless life we cannot live and to die as a perfect atoning sacrifice, once and for all, to pay for the misdeeds that separate us from communion and relationship with God. Through faith in Christ, we can find a peace, a purpose, and a righteousness that comes not from ourselves, but from Him.

At the Presbyterian Church of Wellsville, the Scriptures are received and submitted to as the revealed, trustworthy, and authoritative Word of God, for "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Tim 3:16). A summary of our beliefs can be found in the well-known Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed. We follow in the footsteps of the traditional Reformed theological understanding of God and his Word as expressed in other Reformed/Presbyterian creeds, especially the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.

OUr STORY:

The Presbyterian Church of Wellsville actually grew out of a congregation that started in 1981 in Port Allegany, PA. Several families in that church lived in the Wellsville area, and they began meeting separately for Sunday morning worship in 1984 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Wellsville. In 1985, the Wellsville congregation was established as a mission church of the Presbyterian Church in America, and in 1986 they adopted the name The Presbyterian Church of Wellsville and moved into a newly-purchased church facility at 83 Chamberlain Street. They officially became a particular church in 1990, with a Pastor and Ruling Elders being elected and installed. In 2006, our current Pastor, Rev. Tom Kristoffersen, was elected and installed. We purchased our new facility in 2009, located at 68 N. Main Street, and spent several years renovating it to become the church home we see today. We held our first worship service in the new building in April 2012, and held a dedication service and dinner a month later. Our congregation has been blessed by our faithful Lord over these years, with new members and visitors and opportunities to worship, fellowship, and minister together. Our story is His story, and To God Be The Glory!

"I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen."           -The Apostles' Creed
