Music is a gift from God, and a form of worship commanded by Him in Scripture. At the Presbyterian Church of Wellsville, we have two purposes/goals in mind as we select and play songs for public worship:

(1) to honor God as we sing to Him and about Him with joy and reverence, using songs that seek to faithfully express the beauty and truth of God

(2) to encourage God’s people as we sing, engaging our hearts, minds, and bodies through songs that help us reflect upon God and respond to Him

Our worship service includes a blended mix of hymns, with both traditional and modern melodies (e.g. Indelible Grace Music), and contemporary praise songs (e.g. Keith & Kristyn Getty, Matt Redman, etc.). Instrumental music is also played before and during the service.

We are blessed with gifted yet humble musicians, including several Houghton College students, who help lead us in worship through song. Most songs are led with piano, acoustic guitar, bass, percussion, and vocalists. We sometimes include organ, brass, and/or strings. The words to all songs are projected on overhead screens, and hymnals are available for the hymns. Sheet music is sometimes included in the bulletin to assist us in learning new songs.
