Congratulations!

Congrats to Ransom Poythress on the publication of his book – Richard Dawkins – in the Series Great Thinkers: Critical Studies of Minds That Shape Us. Writing from a Reformed perspective, authors in this series identify the most influential cultural features of each great thinker and the most apologetically effective ways to address them.

Richard Dawkins
“Richard Dawkins, one of the foremost proponents of gene-centered, atheistic approaches to evolutionary science, has leveled intense criticism against those who accept the existence of a supernatural creator. Ransom analyzes the substance of Dawkins ideas and uncovers philosophical flaws in the approach - showing that Dawkins actually depends on Christian assumptions in his work and that the data does not support his materialistic philosophy."

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

In an effort to reach out to our community, our church hosted a Family Fun Night on the evening of August 3rd with a theme of cars. We had eighteen children attend, about half of whom are not from our church. Elva Owlett organized activities and games, Michelle Wagner led the kids in making crafts, and Amanda Smith helped kids assemble cardboard boxes to look like cars. Lisbeth and Ransom Poythress put on a funny skit they wrote about taking a car trip and not following the map, pointing to what happens if we do not follow the Bible, our ultimate map. Pastor Tom presented a gospel message that was related to the movie Cars, speaking of how Christ finished the perfect "race" and yet shared his victory with us. Earl and Joni Saunders popped up delicious varieties of popcorn for the children to eat as they sat in their cardboard cars and watched the movie Cars 3. There were several others that helped through being present to serve as needed or by donating supplies. Thank you to all that contributed! The evening was lovely and we welcomed a few families that do not typically attend any church. Please pray for the Children's Ministry Committee as we consider if we should pursue more Family Fun Nights in the future or if we should consider other creative ways to reach into our community. -Cassie Rummel
